Driving On The Bayou
At the best of times, I’m not really good with bridges. It’s the height issue. I just keep imagining the fall off the bridge. I know I’m driving myself crazy with thoughts like that, but you know.
Though driving along this long, long, long bridge – a little over 29 km or 18 miles – I was fascinated with how we were driving on water for miles on end. It was equal parts scary and exciting. I did keep thinking that if we went over the bridge and into the bayou, we’d be eaten by alligators. I know, morbid thoughts.
On the drive to New Orleans it was raining cats and dogs, and there was no way to stop the car anywhere to snap a few frames. On the way back though we had nothing but sunshine and clear skies, so we braved mosquitoes big as houses and snapped a few frames.
I love how you can frame the bayou and the interstate on each side. It looks almost tranquil. We would have hung out more than three minutes if it weren’t for the massive mosquitoes trying to eat us up. Scandinavian mosquitoes look like itty bitty babies compared to the brawny ones of Louisiana.
