The Quiet Gardens
There isn’t much tourist-trappy about Shreveport or Bossier City. The real tourist traps are found in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. My impression of Shreveport/Bossier City was that it’s a quiet place. Not a whole lot of things happening. Kind of reminds me of where I grew up, stuff does happen, but there isn’t a whole lot to do. Especially for young people.
For a tourist like me, the river, the garden and art center, and the lake were exciting enough. For one I’d never been on a riverboat before, I’d never before seen a bayou, and I love botanical gardens and art. So even though it’s not your typical tourist place, it has plenty to offer for a first time visitor.
Louisiana is rich in history and there are countless places to see and things to experience if you have access to a car. My one regret from this trip, is that I didn’t take enough photos. I wish I’d had my camera in my hand at all times instead of leaving it safely in the camera bag. Rookie mistake. This rookie mistake made me miss out on a bunch of really sexy men passing us by on their bikes, shirtless. Oh well.
A little bit of grumbling and laughter later, we headed towards the Barnwell Garden and Art Center. The massive fountain is surrounded by steps where you can sit and have a picnic, looking down at the river. Every now and then in front of the massive metallic roses, someone will hold a concert in the summer. Sadly we didn’t get to go inside the actual botanical garden as it was closed for the day.
