The Scenic Route
The coastal drive down from San Francisco to Los Angeles is a scenic and beautiful drive, and if you’re in no rush to reach your destination, there is plenty of places to stop. For the photo-enthusiasts of us, there are too many places to capture beautiful images. Just picking a stop or two seems an impossible task. Traveling these days, with Google maps, it’s easy to do some research before travel and pick the spots you may want to stop.
The beauty of Highway 1, it doesn’t matter if you like to camp or stay at swanky hotels, it offers both. If you like to rough it, there are campsites up and down the coast. If a tent or the open sky doesn’t tempt you, there are several very nice, and very pricey, hotels in towns like Santa Barbara. Regardless of how you decide to spend the night, it’s better to do the booking before leaving home so you’re guaranteed a place to stay.
Traveling in October, the ocean was pretty rough and we lucked out on a bunch of surfers. Seeing their tricks in the water on basically a piece of plastic was breath taking. If surfing is your thing, apparently Waddell Beach is one of the places to go.
